Welcome to Tweed Heads
Tweed Heads is on the far north New South Wales coast, nestled beside its twin town in Queensland, Coolangatta. Both Tweed Heads and Coolangatta offer great surfing beaches such as Rainbow Bay, Duranbah and Snapper Rocks, all within easy walking distance of each other.
Visit the Point Danger lookout, situated on the New South Wales/Queensland border, for fantastic views north to the Gold Coast and south along the New South Wales coastline.
While you are staying at Tweed Heads, hire a boat and explore the Tweed River, enjoy a cruise and learn more about the region's history, or try your hand at fishing and crabbing.
Visit the Minjungbal Aboriginal Cultural Centre which celebrates the original inhabitants of the area, with a collection of interesting exhibitions and displays.
Tweed Heads boasts two major shopping centres offering a host of nationwide retail chains, and a weekly market featuring great bargains and unique souvenirs.
The Tweed Shire has a flourishing arts community, and the Tweed River Regional Art Gallery at Murwillumbah, is the focus for major exhibitions and the home of the world’s richest art prize, the Doug Moran Portrait Prize.
Sports enthusiasts are well provided for, with a number of sports fields, excellent golf courses and swimming pools.
Regional attractions include the Melaleuca Tea Tree Plantation, Tropical Fruit World, Pioneer Plantation and Condong Sugar Mill. The glitz of Surfers Paradise is just a half hour up the road, and a little further on are the Gold Coast’s major theme parks.
Consider hiring a car and traveling south down the coast, visiting the many little coastal towns and villages offering great places for a swim or a coffee, and featuring roadside fruit and vegetable stalls.
